I’ve got three races to go until I’m off to the Chicago Marathon in October. The Bristol Half Marathon, Robin Hood Marathon and the Great North Run will all be very important performance indicators ahead of my race in the USA which follows.

I’ve just been down in Poole training with Liz Yelling and put in 90 miles last week – the most I have ever done in one week – so I’m really looking forward to seeing where I am in terms of race pace. I won’t be looking to set personal bests in the three races, but to see where I am versus the all important qualifying time of 2 hours 35 minutes for the World Championships in January.

So I have really been concentrating on getting my training right, building my strength and just continuing to improve where ever I can.

In my average week, I do a couple of runs a day three times a week and two longer runs on the other two days. Saturday is normally my rest day – which is incredibly important – although I might nip into the gym for a strength and conditioning session. I also like to do a bit of swimming to keep it all interesting.

I do actually enjoy all the training – I’m just so motivated to get to 2012!!

Yes, it does live up to the hype! The 2010 London Marathon was an unforgettable experience for me and was a chance to thank a lot of people for their support over the last year.

I finished live on the BBC and it was an emotional moment. The marathon is so much more than just a race, it’s a unique vehicle to raise awareness of so many important causes. Just talking to some of my fellow runners was so inspiring, each with an incredible story, it makes me even more determined to continue my own journey.

As I wasn’t looking to set a personal best it was a good workout for me – but without a doubt the best part was just soaking in the atmosphere and the unbelievable support from the crowd.

What a great experience the Rotterdam Marathon was last weekend! On Thursday I was picked up from the airport and delivered to my (very nice) hotel along with all the other elite runners. In the following days I did lots of media interviews and got to explore a little bit. But come Sunday, it was down to the serious business. The day itself was cold and windy and I ran a 2:45:47, which I was pretty pleased with given the circumstances and I did have a bit left in the tank so I know I can go quicker.

Then on April 25th it is London’s big day. I’m really looking forward it – I have managed to get a race place through my sponsors, Freshfields, so I won’t be trying to set a particularly fast time. Instead I’m planning on really enjoying the day – I have a few friends who are also running and other are coming down to watch. Its a huge day for London and I’m very excited to be involved.

Having broken the Half Marathon World Record twice this year, already my expectations for the race in Rotterdam this weekend are pretty high. The crowds for the race are normally really big and I’m hoping the support they give will spur me on to a really good time. The beginning of the year has been fantastic so I’m looking forward to getting the race under my belt and be able to see what sort of time I can post.
