2012 so far…

Not long now is it! I can’t wait for the Olympics and Paralympics. It’s been a long time coming, but every day there’s something in the news which is Games related and the
anticipation is building nicely with both the public and in the media.

As an athlete, it’s very important to stay focussed on the short term otherwise things tend to bend out of perspective. But it’s very hard!! To have a home Games will be incredible –
it’s a truly once in a lifetime event. Having witnessed home athletes being cheered on by partisan support around the world, I can’t wait for the British public to get behind the team. British sporting crowds are traditionally very vocal and I fully expect this to continue. It will be a great boost for everyone who is competing. At the very highest level, it is the small things
that give you the edge and I honestly believe that home support will boost our overall medal tally. It will be so inspiring!

All the hype and the preparation will surely mean that the London Paralympics will be the best yet. Irrespective of who wins what, it will do wonders for the profile of paralympic
sport not only in the UK, but around the globe.

On a personal level, my preparation is going very well. I’ve recently been doing some warm weather training in South Africa. It was a four week camp for both paralympic and able bodied
athletes and was great to get a bit of a change of scenery – not to mention to feel some sun on my skin!! It was great to get some positive feedback on my preparations from some of the big names in able bodied athletics too.

In terms of my running, I’ve set a few Personal Bests in the gym and run some quick times on the track – so I’m pleased with how it’s progressing. I have another training camp in
Lanzarote in March and then I’m off to Portugal for another camp in April. There no space for complacency!
